Daily Prompt: Relish

via Daily Prompt: Relish

I  am a hot dog kind of girl. I am very picky about the brand of hot dogs that I eat. Whenever I have a craving for a hot dog, there are two must haves that are required: mustard and RELISH. The sweetness of the relish along with tangy pop of the mustard gives my mouth LIFE! My family despises relish on hot dogs. At least, I don’t ever have to worry about not having relish for my hot dogs. Who doesn’t enjoy a mouth watering hot dog with relish? Apparently, everyone I know.

STOP BLAMING MARRIAGE FOR YOUR PROBLEMS

“Whom findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22

Marriage is a covenant relationship between a man and woman. It should be a beautiful experience shared by both parties. Both the husband and wife accepts certain martial responsibilities. For many individuals, the idea marriage goes beyond the earthly covenant. For believers, marriage is a spiritual representation of their relationship with Yahweh. As a society, despite what we know about marriage and what it entails, divorce is still a growing epidemic in our culture.

After examining my own marriage and speaking with other individuals, marriage is not the cause of our relationship problems. We have given life to something that has no substance. We, ourselves, are to blame for the state of marriage. Yes, society is to blame for the lack luster appearance of marriage. Young people would rather shack up than get married. Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free? This is the mentally of young adults today concerning marriage.

A marriage will not be perfect. It is something both individuals must work at the entire time. You will fall in and out of love, face life changing crisis, and at times contemplate divorce. The enormous amount of outside influences will definitely factor into the success or failure of a marriage. I’ve been told that married people should not hang out with single people. I believe this to be true to a certain extent. If the single people in life respect your marriage and hold the same views on marriage, then there should be no problem. However, do have individuals that will find fault in marriage regardless of the beauty in it. This view could stem from past relationships or jealously.

In short, if your relationship was on the rocks prior to tying the knot, do not expect for marriage to change either you or the other person. Marriage is not a living entity that work magic in a relationship. It has no feelings or voice. Whatever problems that exist in your relationship, must be resolved prior to marriage. It would be good to seek counseling prior to entering such a sacred and life changing union.

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Spiritual Growth: Finding Balance

As  a mother, I sometimes become overwhelmed by the tug of war life I have to come to know. I often have found it mind boggling the types of complaints men make about raising children. They speak of it as if it so easy or to frustrating. A father placing a child in front of TV or shoving a electronic device in their face in order to keep them occupied until mommy comes home, is quite the job. A woman’s, rather a mother’s, spiritual dependency gives her the strength to endure the triumphs that comes with raising children in today’s society. The older the children get, the more we have to contend against. As a mother, I seek to nurture them while they are babies, train them while they are in grade school, and groom them while they are in high school.

Ignorance is not an excuse.

Last Thursday, March 18th, 2015, I attended a community meeting entitled “Kids to Cops Dialogue”. It is an initiative to bridge the gap between the kids in lower income communities and the law enforcement. Apparently, there is lack of communication between our AA children and cops. At a young tender age kids have no bias towards cops. What happens between adolescence and their teens age years that causes our children to distrust law enforcement? The senseless killings of young black males at the hands of cops does not help. During our discussion, I learned that the problem begins at home. I must mentioned that I was the only parent at this meeting. Everyone in attendance worked for the city, county, or state. When asked to attend many parents refused because they either had some run in with the police or they just didn’t care. When given the opportunity to confront the issue, these parents declined. At this point, ignorance of the system is no longer an excuse. As parent, we have the power to change the lives of our children and community. Stop being reactive and start being proactive.

From Great Universities to “Knowledge Factories”: Another American Institution in Decline

Awesome read. I am a huge advocate for education at every level. However, as we all know, every system in our society is money driven whether public or private. Schools, universities, and college, prisons. The breakdown in our system comes long before higher education. We have neglected to address the issues at the lower levels, daycare, elementary, and high school. As a society, we have proven we lack the ability to remain consistent in our teachings. Every year curriculums change as well as tests.

ACADEME BLOG

Thomas Frank, perhaps best known for What’s the Matter with Kansas?, an examination of America’s new conservatism, has an article in Salon, “The New Republic, the torture report, and the TED talks geniuses who gutted journalism.” Toward the end, he writes this:

The new press lord’s deeds are all made possible by the shrinking significance of everyone else. Compared to the patois of power, the language of journalism is but meaningless babble. Compared to once having been a friend of Zuckerberg, no form of literary genius matters any more. Compared to the puissance and majesty of the CIA, we amount to nothing. We are playthings of the powerful, churned out by the millions every year from the nation’s knowledge factories. We are zeroes to their ones, ready to rationalize monopoly or rectal hydration at a moment’s notice.

We’ve been through all of this before, though Frank doesn’t write…
